Arm Fat Removal in Tuscaloosa

What to Expect for Arm Fat Removal in Tuscaloosa

No matter how many times you’ve Googled “how to get rid of arm fat” and tried all the tips and tricks and exercises, you always seem to get the same result: no result. You read things like, “stick to a consistent sleep schedule” or “drink enough water” and then your eyes glaze over. We feel your pain.

At Indian Hills Plastic Surgery, we have a solution that won’t waste your time and will provide real results: surgical arm fat removal in Tuscaloosa. An arm lift (i.e. brachioplasty) is truly the only way you can remove excess skin and fat in your upper arms!

How does arm fat removal in Tuscaloosa work?

There are 3 main steps for arm fat removal:

1. Anesthesia

Before beginning surgery, our anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia to ensure a comfortable treatment experience. You won’t feel a thing!

2. Incisions

The size and placement of the incisions for an arm lift will depend on the amount of skin and fat we need to remove. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Wallace will make the necessary incisions on either the inner part of your arm or the back.

3. Skin and fat removal

Dr. Wallace will remove the small pockets of fat and excess skin that have been causing your arms to droop and sag. She will then tighten the tissue and skin to ensure a tight, contoured, slim appearance.

Treatment time

Brachioplasty takes anywhere between 1 and 2 hours. We do ask that you have someone to drive you home after.

Recovery: What to expect

Pain/discomfort:

You will experience swelling, bruising, and soreness that will continue to improve after the first few weeks. We can prescribe pain medications and tips for elevating your arm to reduce swelling.

Compression garment:

Wear a compression garment for 3 to 6 weeks after surgery to speed up healing.

Limit activities:

During the first few days, you’ll need someone to help you complete any household tasks and errands. Make sure you refrain from exercising for the first few weeks. We’ve gotta let the body heal!

Attend your follow-up appointment:

We’ll schedule your post-operative appointment at the time we schedule your surgical appointment. It’s important for us to check on your incisions and ensure you’re healing healthily. The post-op appointments will be more frequent in the first few weeks following surgery, then will gradually become more spaced out.

Return to work:

After your arm fat removal in Tuscaloosa, you should be able to return to work after 2 weeks. This is a wonderful time to catch up on your favorite TV show or a book you’ve been dying to read!

Arm lift vs. liposuction

Both an arm lift and liposuction are incredible contouring procedures, but they do have different goals. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that uses suction to remove pockets of fat in the arms (and multiple other treatment areas, e.g. neck liposuction). An arm lift, on the other hand, removes excess skin and fat. Liposuction solely removes fat, leaving excess skin unaddressed.

The main reason people tend to opt for an arm lift over liposuction is if they’ve lost a significant amount of weight and were left with excess skin. Otherwise, liposuction can often do the trick for fat removal!
